Live Cams Of Penguins, Jellies And Sharks, Oh My!

Even if you are stuck at home, you can still check in with the natural world thanks to the efforts of the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Most animal sanctuaries, aquariums and zoos are closed to the public until the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is brought under control. In the meantime, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has installed cameras inside and out its many exhibits. Now, online “visitors” can catch each feeding in the penguin house, take a look in the shark tank, or watch a dozen or more delicate sea nettles pulse by.

Some of the stunning views Monterey Bay is offering from its website include:

  • Aviary Cam – Peek into the Aviary for an adventure in birdwatching.
  • Coral Reef Cam – Follow busy tropical fishes in ¡Viva Baja! Life on the Edge.
  • Jelly Cam – See breathtaking sea nettles drift and pulse.
  • Kelp Forest Cam – See sardines swirl and leopard sharks glide through gently swaying kelp canopies.
  • Monterey Bay Cam – Look for otters, birds and sailboats on Monterey Bay.
  • Moon Jelly Cam – Be hypnotized by our gorgeous glowing moon jellies.
  • Open Sea Cam – View open-ocean animals, from tuna to turtles, sharks and sardines.
  • Penguin Cam – See African penguins waddle and nest.
  • Sea Otter Cam – Enjoy sea otters as they frolic and swim.
  • Shark Cam – See sharks and fishes glide in the Monterey Bay Habitats exhibit.

Most of the feeds are live between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., except for the penguin and coral reef cams which switch over to recorded footage at 5 p.m., and the jelly cam at 6 p.m. The Monterey Bay cam, however, is live 24/7.

At special times throughout the day, aquarium staff are narrating the feedings of the penguins and creatures in the kelp forest. This cute and educational experience is fun for the whole family.
