Mama Duck Brings Her Newborn Ducklings To Visit A Nursing Home Every Spring
Animals are amazing, and I don’t know many people who would argue that fact. They are there for us when we need a smile on our face and their actions can keep us entertained nonstop. Most of us consider dogs and cats when it comes to this type of interaction, but ducklings should not be overlooked.
As an example, this mother duck visits a hospital every year when she hatches her new family. It is in upstate New York at the MM Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua and it has been happening for a number of years.
Every year, the mother duck comes to her nesting home with perfect timing. She takes a stroll around the facility and then leaves with her newborn ducklings. The residents all get to say goodbye before the ducklings are gone for another year.

MM Ewing Continuing Care Center employees have taken pictures of the mother duck and her ducklings and share them on the official Facebook page for their parent company, Thompson Health.
They wrote: “Every year, mama follows the same path. Facility Services associates – one of whom said, “She has us trained” – have old signage to gently guide her and her babies in case they look like they’re about to get sidetracked. They head to the light from an open door at the end of the corridor.”
Assistant Nurse Manager Betsy Willard held the door for the mama and her 13 babies.
Pictures of the mother duck and her new ducklings were also shared. In the first picture, the duck is being closely followed by the ducklings walking in a line.
In the next picture, you see employees holding the door open for the entire duck family as they walk out of the building to the open fields. In the third and fourth pictures, they are walking through the grass and the last picture shows the faculty saying goodbye for yet another year.
The family headed out into a large park-like area behind the facility.
Only the residents and employees at the facility were aware of the annual visit but that changed when things were uploaded to Facebook.
It wasn’t long before people used all those pictures for letting Thompson’s Health know how much it meant to them. One user Jenifer Gray Cheney wrote: “I can’t even stand how cute this is! If this is annual, she must realize it’s a safe place”. Another individual Marilou Baker added: “It’s wonderful to see a mama take care of her children. God bless and also kudos for the door holder”.
Yet another happy person, Loreta Buchanan stated: “Thank you for sharing. That is so precious. Mrs. Duck is very smart and wise [for] protecting her young”.
