‘Bee Influencer’ Uses Social Media To Raise Awareness And Funds To Save Her Species
I’d like to introduce you to B, an insect influencer that is becoming wildly popular on Instagram. She is busy putting pictures of herself up on that social media channel traveling the world and relaxing by luxury pools. B is doing more than putting on plenty of miles, she is trying to raise awareness and funds to save bees. She is a creation of Foundation de France.
“I want to please brands around the world to raise money to save bees, many of which disappear every year,” says B. “I need you: the more followers I have on Instagram, the more interested brands are and the more money I will collect.” One of the main reasons why bee populations are disappearing is because of agriculture. 24% of bees die in Europe annually. Considering what these pollinators do to our global food system, it’s imperative that we take care of them so they can take care of us. After all, they are responsible for one-third of the food consumed by humans so without them, food would be in scarce quantity. B explains, “Protecting bees means protecting the planet, but also humankind.”
Foundation de France would like B’s popularity on Instagram to encourage brands to promote their products. Any fee that is paid for exposure would go right into the BEE FUND set up by the organization. The fund would finance help for farmers to switch to techniques that are pollinator-friendly, rebuild bee habitats and educate people on the dangers of pesticides.
This is B, the first insect influencer in the world.
